Black Coral Sunglasses Inspired By Hawaii State Gem

Inspired by the subtle beauty of Hawaii's official state gem, Black Coral, the newest sunglass design by Maui Jim®, debuts in eyewear stores this week. Black Coral is part of the company’s line of full-frame metal styles and features Maui Jim’s patented PolarizedPlus®2 lens technology in a stylish and contemporary package.

Black Coral will appeal to consumers with a variety of interests, but all have one thing in common - the need for an outstanding, versatile pair of sunglasses. Each frame is crafted from durable and resilient Monel metal with anti-corrosive nickel/silver spring hinges and adjustable, non-slip Rabalon nose pads. Available in matte black and matte espresso, the acetate temples feature a high-gloss, dark shell-like finish.

Black Coral’s lenses are made from ST (SuperThin) Glass that is 20 percent thinner and lighter than conventional laminated polarized lenses. ST Glass also is scratch-resistant and optically clear. Each lens features seven layers of proprietary PolarizedPlus2 protection to cut glare by 99.9 percent from above, below and behind the lens and to eliminate 100 percent of UV rays. The company’s unique, bi-gradient mirror technology enhances protection from light through the top and bottom of each lens – basically, the glasses "squint" for the user. Black Coral lenses come in two colors: Neutral Grey for bright, sunny days and HCL® Bronze for variable light conditions.

Anything But Ordinary - SAAB Hawaii

SAAB Hawaii is an independent and locally owned company that combines smart solutions with advanced powerful technology in its designs. The company is inspired by SAAB’s aircraft heritage, one that appeals to modern active people on the lookout for something decidedly different.

Sound familiar?

As an Associate of SAAB Hawaii and as someone who lives an active and proud lifestyle in the LGBT community, I recognize certain attributes shared among the community that I value to define my presence in life.

Three words: unique, sleek and sporty.

I work for a company that invest its resources to innovative designs with a commitment to independent thinking, and acknowledgment that there are millions of people out there with a passion for this truly unique brand that SAAB has created. Like the forward thinking of past LGBT activists such as Bill Woods and Martin Rice, it will be the foundation for a new and exciting era, and I am honored to be a part of it.

We are in the business to accommodate the people of Hawaii looking for a combination of new technologies, elegance and an environmentally and socially positive stance. The modern automobile no longer serves the pure purpose of transportation. It is the representation of comfort, safety, adoration and lifestyle.

Look around, no other community stands out like our LGBT community. In a roomful of people, I can spot someone out who shares our lifestyle. And on the road of all too familiar looking automobiles, I can instantly spot out a SAAB - the same unique reflection of my life.

We share something uncommon.

WHY DOES FOOD TASTE BETTER WITH WINE?

Written By: Liane Fu, Sommelier and President of The Wine Stop

People sometimes ask, “Why does food taste better with wine?”  It’s generally because wine is acidic, and acidity is a turbocharger for flavors. One of the main reasons why ketchup makes our french fries taste better is because it’s made with vinegar. Vinegar perks up flavors because of its high acidity.

It’s not uncommon for people in Europe to drink wine with their meals.  Wine makes food taste better, in part, because it is acidic.  Finding the right wine to pair with your food is a tasty and fun experience. For example, Oysters on the half shell pairs nicely with a Muscadet or a Sancerre (a Sauvignon Blanc) from France. Both these wines have a racy acidity. Lively acidity goes well with delicately textured and flavored foods. Sauvignon Blanc also pairs nicely with light salads, shellfish and especially goat cheese. Its acidic synergy helps to cut through the pungency of the cheese, both tempering and enhancing the flavors of each.

In general, wines from Europe are made to pair with food. European wines generally have more acidity than wines from the “New World” or “Not Europe”. Wines from the New World sometimes are made to pair with food. If you would like some help finding a wine to pair with your next meal, ask a sommelier (a wine steward). There are three sommeliers at The Wine Stop.  You are sure to bump into at least one when you stop by.

3D Enabled D-ILA Home Theatre Projector

3D has recently become a major box office draw.

Now, with 3D broadcast channels emerging, and a growing number of 3D Blu-ray titles available, consumers want the immersive 3D experience in the comfort of their homes. The new line of D-ILA projectors sets a new standard for home cinema. It’s an immersive home 3D viewing experience.

For 3D content, each projector includes two HDMI 1.4a ports and supports side-by-side (broadcast), frame series (Blu-ray), and above-below 3D transmissions. An external 3D Signal Emitter (PK-EM1) syncs the projected image with JVC’s Active Shutter 3D Glasses (PK-AG1).

The external 3D signal emitter ensures solid signal transmission to the 3D glasses for a superior 3D experience, no matter what type of screen is used or how the home theater has been configured.

The 3D projectors are built using hand-selected, hand-tested components and provide a 100,000:1 native contrast ratio. For 3D display, both models come with two pairs of 3D glasses along with a PK-EM1 3D Signal Emitter. Both projectors also have a three-year warranty.

What consumers need to know? JVC’s contrast ratio of the 3D projector are not artificially inflated by electronic circuitry or a dynamic iris, so every frame consistently and faithfully reproduces peak whites and deep blacks.

Ok, so maybe you need another reason why you would want to purchase a 3D projector. Are you game? That’s exactly it, with today’s evolving trend of motion gaming and for some, another option to working out – if you think the present graphics is great, wait until you experience 3D!

JVC’s 3D projector is available at Audio Lab Hawaii.
